Rochan Sinha is Co-Founder and CTO of Newtrace, a Bengaluru-based cleantech startup developing next-generation electrolyzers for affordable green hydrogen generation using non-precious, earth-abundant materials.

A J.N. Tata Fellow, Rochan holds a PhD in Applied Physics from Eindhoven University of Technology and brings over 9 years of experience in novel materials for renewable energy storage and generation, including solid-state batteries, electrolyzers, and solar fuel devices.

Rochan met his co-founder Prasanta Sarkar at Entrepreneur First Bangalore and pivoted from a materials informatics SaaS platform to a full-scale hardware product driven by his passion for climate change mitigation and green hydrogen innovation.

Under his technical leadership, Newtrace advanced from a proof-of-concept in December 2021 to a full-scale commercial pilot system by December 2023, and the company won the Shooting Star Award worth $150,000 at LEAP 2024 in Riyadh.

Newtrace has raised over $6.7M in funding from investors including Peak XV Partners, HDFC Bank, and Speciale Invest, and operates from a 30,000 sq ft technology center in Bengaluru with a team of 45+ engineers and scientists targeting green hydrogen at $1/kg by 2027.
