Sang Cheol Kim

Dr. Sang Cheol Kim is a Co-Founder of Navion Energy, a Los Angeles-based deep tech startup pioneering proprietary sodium-ion battery technology for American industries and mission-critical applications.
Sang Cheol earned dual Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, and Chemistry from Duke University, then completed his MS and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, where he worked with Prof. Yi Cui on next-generation electrolytes.
He developed a breakthrough class of electrolytes called the high entropy electrolyte and later conducted postdoctoral research with Nobel Laureate Prof. Steven Chu on electrochemical CO2 capture and energy sustainability solutions.
Prior to academia and founding Navion Energy, Sang Cheol spent three years at LG Chem as a battery cell engineer designing cells for electric vehicles, giving him deep industry expertise in commercial battery development.
Navion Energy, backed by leading international VCs including SOSV HAX and Kakao Ventures, is building sodium-ion batteries using only U.S.-sourced materials to enable TWh-scale energy storage and full domestic supply chain independence.
