Scott Chacon is Co-Founder and CEO of GitButler, a next-generation Git client reimagining version control for the AI-driven era of software development, based in Berlin, Germany.
Scott studied at UC San Diego, co-founded GitHub in 2008, and helped grow it from 4 co-founders to 450 employees before its $7.5 billion acquisition by Microsoft, then co-founded the language learning startup Chatterbug.
Scott authored the widely read Pro Git book, is a global speaker on Git and software collaboration, and is considered one of the world's foremost experts on Git usability.
After GitHub and Chatterbug, Scott co-founded GitButler in 2023 alongside Kiril Videlov and Anne Leuschner, backed by a16z, Fly Ventures, and A.Capital Ventures in a $17M Series A round.
GitButler has drawn adoption from engineers at companies like Notion, Sentry, and Atlassian, and is positioning itself as the foundational infrastructure for how software gets built in the age of AI agents.
