Sebastian Klaus

Sebastian Klaus is CEO and Co-Founder at ATMOS Space Cargo, a European space logistics company building orbital return infrastructure to transport cargo from Low Earth Orbit back to Earth. ATMOS successfully demonstrated the PHOENIX 1 vehicle in April 2025, becoming the first private European company to conduct orbital reentry.
Sebastian holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on atmospheric reentry and reusable rocket engines from Bundeswehr University Munich. He served as an officer in the German Armed Forces Special Forces (KSK) for over a decade and completed an MBA program at ESB Business School Reutlingen.
Sebastian has developed and submitted multiple patented technologies in the field of entry and descent. He holds a commercial pilot license and brings deep expertise in parachute systems, which he utilized during the PHOENIX 1 reentry reconnaissance mission off the coast of Brazil.
ATMOS raised 25.7M euros in Series A funding in April 2026 to build a three-vehicle PHOENIX 2 fleet and launch ATMOS WORKS, a dedicated division for European government and defense customers. The company secured a seven-mission agreement with Space Cargo Unlimited and has 80% of its first mission payload capacity already booked.
ATMOS is establishing Europe's first routine orbital return infrastructure, with PHOENIX 2 supporting payloads up to 100 kg and missions lasting up to three months. The company is developing PHOENIX 3 with approximately 1 tonne payload capacity, roughly 10 times larger than PHOENIX 2, to serve Europe's evolving space economy and sovereign defense needs.
