Shivani Mitra is Co-Founder and Founding CEO of Nous Research, an open-source AI lab building human-centric language models and decentralized machine intelligence infrastructure. She is also Managing Partner of Prometheia LLC, an emerging technology investment fund focused on highly emergent technologies with long-term intrinsic value.

Shivani studied Art History and Biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, then conducted clinical research at Boston Children's Hospital and qualitative research at Harvard Medical School, and published work in the British Medical Journal and The Lancet on applied AI and surgical innovation.

A researcher and investor raised by two software engineers, Shivani brings a rare interdisciplinary lens spanning biomedical research, crypto art, and frontier AI to her work building open-source machine intelligence. She previously co-founded the Museum of Crypto Art (MOCA) in 2020, pioneering digital art infrastructure on Ethereum and in virtual worlds.

Prior to Nous Research, Shivani served as Director and Curator at the Museum of Crypto Art from 2020 to 2024 and as Investment Director at Shiro San Fund from 2022 to 2025, while also angel investing in companies such as Prime Intellect.

Shivani led Nous Research from pre-seed to a closed $70M Series A, with the company's Hermes model family downloaded tens of millions of times from Hugging Face and the Psyche decentralized training network built on Solana reaching a $1.5B valuation.
