Shyamal Anadkat

Shyamal is a former member of the Applied AI team at OpenAI, where he led startup partnerships and worked with founders and accelerators like Y Combinator. He is currently leading Applied AI at a new venture and serves as an angel investor.
Shyamal studied artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship at Duke University, earning a Master's in AI, and also completed business training at Harvard Business School Online. He holds a CS/CE background from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Shyamal is an active contributor to the OpenAI Cookbook, adding notebooks on abstractive summarization evaluation, embeddings, and GPT-4 function calling. He scouts angel deals for Andreessen Horowitz and advises Duke's AIPI program.
Shyamal has invested in startups including OnFinance AI, SpeakX, Nekuda, Portkey.ai, and Spur, focusing on AI-native companies in India and the US. He joined OpenAI in August 2022 and worked on go-to-market initiatives for leading companies and startups.
During his time at OpenAI, Shyamal partnered with leading companies to guide responsible AI development and use. He mentors startup founders and contributes to advancing safe AGI through academic, product, and investor perspectives.
