Steve Jurvetson

Steve Jurvetson is Co-Founder and Managing Director at Future Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on disruptive technologies including space exploration, AI, quantum computing, robotics, and sustainable transportation. He was formerly a partner at Draper Fisher Jurvetson and has led investments representing over $1.7 trillion in aggregate value creation.
Steve earned his undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree from Stanford in 2.5 years, graduating first in his class, and completed an MSEE and MBA from Stanford. He worked as an R&D Engineer at Hewlett-Packard where seven chip designs were fabricated, and held positions at Apple, NeXT, and Bain & Company.
Steve was named to Forbes Midas List five times (2011-2014, 2016) and appointed Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship by President Obama in 2016. He received the Venture Capitalist of the Year award from Deloitte and the Visionary Award from SV Forum.
Steve was an early investor in SpaceX, Tesla, Planet Labs, Hotmail, Skype, D-Wave, and Upside Foods, serving on the boards of SpaceX and Tesla (2006-2020). Future Ventures has raised three $200M funds since 2018, focusing on seed and early-stage investments in mission-driven founders.
Steve's investments at DFJ led to successful IPOs and acquisitions totaling over $800 billion in value creation, including companies like Hotmail, Baidu, Skype, and Nervana (acquired by Intel for part of $12 billion in aggregate acquisitions). Future Ventures continues backing transformative companies reshaping industries from aerospace to synthetic biology.
