Steve Potts

Steve Potts, PhD, MBA is Co-Founder and CEO at Breakthru Medicine, a biotechnology company developing disruptive therapeutic modalities for cancer patients with unmet medical needs. He holds a PhD in Biological Engineering and MBA from UC Davis.
Steve served as VP of Medical Affairs at Ignyta (acquired by Roche/Genentech for $1.7B), where he led global testing of over 20,000 patients across 15 countries for entrectinib, achieving breakthrough designations in USA, Europe, and Japan. He also founded and served as CEO of Flagship Biosciences, growing it to 75 employees before exit, and was General Manager at Aperio (acquired by Danaher for $180M).
Steve founded OncoMyx Therapeutics in 2018 and raised $75M in venture funding for the multi-armed immunotherapy company. He has delivered investor exits with minimum 12x+ returns across his last three of four companies and chairs the Drug Development Council for the International Cancer Advocacy Network.
Breakthru Medicine emerged from stealth in January 2026 with a $60M Series A financing, backed by investors including Baylor University endowment chief Dave Morehead and Eshelman Ventures founder Fred Eshelman. The company's team has been directly involved in more than a dozen therapies currently approved or in late-stage clinical trials, with the majority receiving FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation.
Breakthru Medicine is building a multi-modality platform spanning small molecules, molecular glues, and novel antibody-drug conjugate payloads to expand the druggable target universe for difficult-to-treat cancers. The company takes a patient-first, tumor-agnostic targeting approach focused on breakthrough-level oncology therapies with significant commercial potential.
