Steven Mendel is Co-Founder and Executive Chair at Lateral, a UK-based insurtech building health and wealth products for the over 60s demographic. He is a qualified actuary with over 25 years of experience in financial services.

Steven studied at the University of Leeds and worked as an actuary at AON Consulting, spent six years as a strategy consultant at McKinsey, and held leadership roles at Barclays Wealth, Close Brothers Wealth Management, and Christie's. He co-founded ManyPets (formerly Bought By Many) in 2012 with Guy Farley.

Steven was included in the London Business School Review of 30 People Who Are Changing The World in April 2019. He led ManyPets to a pivot into pet insurance in 2017, transforming it into an international business.

Under Steven's leadership, ManyPets raised $483M in total funding, including a $350M Series D at a $2.4B valuation in 2021, achieving unicorn status. The company expanded internationally to Sweden and the US, insuring over half a million pets globally before Steven stepped down as CEO in 2024.

Steven pioneered innovative insurance products including pre-existing condition coverage and free video vet consultations. At Lateral, he raised £2.5M in seed funding led by Augmentum to address the £1.6B UK self-pay healthcare market for over 60s.
