Sundar Pichai is CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet Inc., roles he has held since 2015 and 2019 respectively. He holds degrees in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur, materials science from Stanford University, and an MBA from Wharton where he was named a Siebel Scholar and Palmer Scholar.
Before joining Google in 2004, Pichai worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company. At Google, he led product management for Google Chrome, ChromeOS, and Google Drive.
Pichai was included in Time's 100 most influential people in 2016 and 2020, and received the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India in 2022. As of 2025, his net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion, a rare achievement for a non-founding CEO.
Pichai built and launched Chrome in 2008, scaling it to 64% global browser market share, and rose from product manager to Alphabet CEO in just 11 years. He was pursued by Twitter in 2011 and considered for Microsoft CEO in 2014, and helped negotiate Google's $3.2 billion acquisition of Nest Labs.
Under Pichai's leadership, Alphabet has doubled down on artificial intelligence as a core growth engine, committing $75 billion to AI infrastructure in 2025 alone. Alphabet has added more than $1 trillion in market value and returned 120% to investors since the beginning of 2023.
