Yann LeCun

Yann LeCun is Executive Chair at Advanced Machine Intelligence Labs (AMI Labs), a startup focused on world-model AI architectures, and Silver Professor at New York University. He previously served as Chief AI Scientist at Meta for over 10 years.
LeCun earned his PhD in Computer Science from Sorbonne University in 1987, worked at AT&T Bell Labs from 1988-2003, and became founding director of NYU Center for Data Science in 2012.
In 2018, LeCun received the ACM Turing Award with Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio for breakthroughs in deep neural networks. He pioneered convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in the late 1980s, developing the LeNet architecture for handwritten digit recognition.
LeCun joined Meta in 2013 as founding director of Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and served as Chief AI Scientist until November 2025. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and French Legion of Honor.
LeCun's convolutional neural networks revolutionized computer vision and are now foundational to autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, voice assistants, and natural language processing used by billions globally. His work at Meta helped advance AI research in open source models and established FAIR as a leading AI lab.
