Yevgeniy Vahlis

Yevgeniy Vahlis is Co-Founder and CEO at Shakudo, an operating system for data and AI that helps companies launch AI products quickly and cost-effectively. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto.
Prior to establishing Shakudo in 2021, Yevgeniy founded and led BMO AI Labs at BMO Financial Group, served as Head of Applied Machine Learning at Borealis AI (RBC), and was Director of Applied Research at Georgian Partners. He also worked as a Senior Software Development Engineer at Amazon and Research Scientist at AT&T Labs.
Yevgeniy is an experienced leader and entrepreneur in the artificial intelligence industry, having built applied AI and machine learning product groups at major financial institutions and worked closely with startups to introduce applied research into their products.
Shakudo raised $9.5M CAD in Series A funding led by GreatPoint Ventures in 2023, bringing total funding to approximately $14.5M. The company grew revenue 6x year-over-year in 2022 with no sales team and serves clients across financial services, robotics, marketing technology, climate, energy, and real estate sectors.
Shakudo's platform automates common engineering and development tasks, freeing up data teams to focus on building products. The company helps businesses reduce vendor lock-in, costs, and operational overhead, with customers evolving their data stacks multiple times without modifying underlying infrastructure.
