Arctic Health Launches AI Platform to Automate Healthcare Credentialing

YC Spring 2026 startup uses AI agents and browser automation to compress provider credentialing and payer enrollment from months into days, targeting a $21B automation opportunity.

Arctic Health Launches AI Platform to Automate Healthcare Credentialing

When a healthcare provider signs on to join a new practice, the revenue clock doesn't start ticking right away. First comes credentialing—the Byzantine process of verifying qualifications, submitting applications to dozens of insurance payers, and waiting. And waiting.

Ninety to 120 days, typically. Sometimes longer.

That lag frustrates administrators, delays paychecks for newly hired clinicians, and creates a cascading mess for growing practices trying to scale. Arctic Health, a startup that emerged from Y Combinator's Spring 2026 batch, thinks it can collapse most of that timeline into days. The company has built what it describes as AI-native credentialing infrastructure, deploying browser automation and AI agents to navigate the fragmented landscape of hundreds of payer portals that providers must wrestle with.

The pitch is straightforward, if ambitious: compress credentialing cycles that typically span months into a matter of days, letting telehealth platforms, group practices, and revenue cycle management firms onboard providers faster and bill sooner. Whether that promise holds up at scale—and whether AI agents can reliably handle a compliance-heavy process without introducing new headaches—is the bet Arctic Health is asking the industry to make.

Automating the Bureaucracy

Arctic Health handles the full credentialing arc, from initial data collection and verification through contract negotiation and enrollment submissions. The platform gathers organizational and provider information, validates it against state and payer requirements, submits applications on the organization's behalf, and monitors status and compliance on an ongoing basis.

The company says it supports all major payers nationwide and reports having served over 2,000 providers across more than 300 payer networks, according to its website. Its target customers include telehealth providers, multi-location clinics, group practices, RCM companies, and credentialing verification organizations scattered across the U.S.

There's a minor wrinkle in the company's public messaging. Arctic Health's homepage advertises payer application submission within two business days, while the About page cites seven days to submission. Both claims are live on the site. Once submitted, the company estimates providers reach fully in-network status in 60 to 90 days on average—still subject to payer processing times, but a noticeable improvement over traditional credentialing workflows.

The technical foundation rests on AI-powered document extraction, verification, and error detection—automating the manual data entry and cross-checking that credentialing specialists have long performed by hand. Browser automations, according to the company, allow AI agents to submit applications and monitor progress across hundreds of different payer portals, each with its own quirks and requirements.

For larger organizations, Arctic Health offers API integration to plug existing systems directly into its credentialing engine, along with custom onboarding flows and white-label services for RCM firms and CVOs that want to offer credentialing under their own brand. Real-time status tracking gives administrators visibility into where each provider sits in the enrollment pipeline—a feature that, in theory, should cut down on the anxious emails and phone calls that typically accompany credentialing limbo.

On the compliance front, the company's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service state that platform services are governed by a Master Service Agreement and Business Associate Agreement, with protected health information processed under HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. According to its Privacy Policy, Arctic Health encrypts data at rest and in transit, maintains audit logging, and explicitly states it does not use customer data to train general AI models without written authorization. Given the sensitivity of provider data and the regulatory scrutiny around healthcare automation, those assurances matter—though independent validation of those claims isn't yet publicly available.

The Founding Team

Arctic Health was founded in 2025 by three operators with experience scaling products at high-growth tech companies, though none come from traditional healthcare credentialing backgrounds. CEO Sam Slezek previously worked in product roles at Scale AI and Instacart, and spent time covering insurance at Morgan Stanley. CTO Raghav Mehrish was a senior engineer at Airbnb and Zenefits and co-founded Handstamp. COO Michael Clark co-founded inside sales at Instabase and worked at 1Sharpe Capital.

The four-person team (the discrepancy between "three operators" and "four-person team" suggests recent hiring) is backed by Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, and Fortitude Ventures. No funding amounts or round details have been publicly disclosed by the company or its investors. Arctic Health's presence on Fortitude Ventures' portfolio page describes the company as building "autonomous back-office infrastructure for healthcare, starting with credentialing and contracting."

That framing—autonomous infrastructure—hints at broader ambitions beyond credentialing alone, though for now, the company appears focused on proving its core thesis in a single, painful segment of healthcare administration.

A Crowded, Awakening Market

Arctic Health is hardly alone in trying to modernize credentialing. The market has long been dominated by large, established enterprise platforms—HealthStream's CredentialStream, symplr's Credentialing Suite, Modio Health's OneView, and MD-Staff—most of which emphasize NCQA-certified CVO services, compliance frameworks, and broad EHR integrations. These incumbents have built moats around institutional relationships and regulatory credibility, but they're also burdened by legacy architectures.

Other recent entrants have embraced AI as well. Medallion raised $43 million in September 2025 alongside the launch of CredAlliance, a credentialing clearinghouse claiming to support over one million providers. Beam Health introduced AI-powered credentialing tools in January 2026. Verifiable and Baton Health offer API-first verification and primary source verification, while Axuall operates a digital credential network.

Arctic Health's differentiation appears to be its AI-native architecture, agent-based portal automation, and end-to-end scope that bundles both credentialing and payer contracting—packaged for organizations of varying sizes rather than just enterprise clients. Whether that's enough to carve out sustainable market share in a space where trust and compliance are paramount remains an open question.

The broader opportunity is real. The CAQH Index report found that U.S. healthcare avoided substantial administrative costs through automation—but identified billions more in potential savings from automating still-manual or partially manual transactions. Credentialing and payer enrollment sit squarely in that remaining opportunity, a stubborn pocket of inefficiency that has frustrated healthcare operators for decades.

The Trust Question

Arctic Health has not disclosed pricing, and no independent customer case studies or third-party validation of its performance metrics have been published. The company's website includes educational content—guides on CAQH ProView management, multi-state licensing, telehealth credentialing, and enrollment timelines—signaling an effort to build authority in a space historically dominated by legacy vendors and manual processes.

For healthcare organizations frustrated by credentialing delays, the core question is whether AI agents can reliably navigate payer portals at scale without introducing compliance risk or quality issues. Credentialing mistakes can be costly: denials, rework, delayed reimbursements, and in the worst cases, regulatory scrutiny.

Arctic Health's bet is that browser automation, combined with credentialing expertise embedded in the platform, can turn a multi-month ordeal into a matter of days—and that the administrative savings justify trusting algorithms with a process that directly impacts provider revenue and patient access. It's a compelling vision, one that speaks to a genuine pain point in healthcare operations.

Whether that promise holds at scale, and whether payers themselves will tolerate the automation of what has traditionally been a highly manual, human-mediated process, remains to be seen. For now, Arctic Health is in the early innings of proving that credentialing—long considered too complex and compliance-sensitive for full automation—can be reimagined with AI at the core.

The wait times may still be inevitable. But perhaps, with enough intelligent automation and regulatory cooperation, they don't have to be quite so long.
