Benji Raises $6.25M Seed for 'Plaid of Loyalty' Partnership API

NYC startup building infrastructure to connect loyalty programs lands backing from Preface Ventures and Atinc as pay-with-points becomes table stakes.

Benji Raises $6.25M Seed for 'Plaid of Loyalty' Partnership API

The loyalty points economy operates something like the early internet—lots of walled gardens, very little interoperability. Your airline miles don't talk to your hotel points. Your credit card rewards live in a separate universe from your grocery store app. Every partnership between programs requires custom technical work that can take months.

Benji, a New York startup, thinks it has spotted an infrastructure opportunity in all that friction. On May 19, the company announced it had closed $6.25 million in seed funding to build what it describes as a universal API for connecting loyalty programs—the kind of technical plumbing that would let brands and financial institutions plug into multiple reward systems through a single integration.

Preface Ventures and Atinc co-led the round. Great North Ventures, M25, and Hyde Park Venture Partners also participated, with M25 describing it in an investment memo published back in February 2025 as "Plaid for loyalty rewards."

Whether that comparison holds up may determine if Benji becomes essential infrastructure or just another middleware layer nobody asked for.

The Problem Worth Solving (Maybe)

Co-founders Nick Anastasiades, Arik Gaisler, and Jon Elron are banking on a premise that loyalty programs—those sprawling databases of points, miles, and punch cards—need something they've never quite had: a standard way to connect with each other. The technical challenge isn't trivial. Each program runs on different rules, data formats, and partnership economics. Building a single integration can require legal approvals, compliance reviews, and bespoke engineering work.

Benji's platform attempts to abstract all that complexity behind what it calls "The Loyalty Partnership Platform." In practice, that means a rule engine for structuring cross-program campaigns, webhook notifications, and APIs designed to let businesses launch offers across multiple loyalty ecosystems without reinventing the integration wheel each time. The company's documentation mentions a Connect SDK and data extraction tools for managing partnership mechanics.

Their homepage claims the platform now powers partnerships spanning more than 50 million members—a figure the company promotes but doesn't yet back with publicly identified programs or brands using the technology.

The pricing structure follows the API-first playbook: usage-based fees, no upfront integration costs, no per-partner charges, no long-term contracts. It's designed to appeal to developers who've grown accustomed to that model from Stripe, Twilio, and—yes—Plaid.

Fast Followers and Crowded Categories

This seed round lands roughly a year after Benji's pre-seed, which closed around March 2025 based on investor announcements from Great North Ventures and M25. Hyde Park Venture Partners was in that earlier round as well.

The company listed between 11 and 50 employees as of April 2026 and is hiring aggressively. Open positions as of May included senior frontend and forward deployed engineers in Brooklyn, plus business development and growth marketing roles in Chicago. That two-city staffing push suggests the company is building both the technical platform and the customer acquisition engine simultaneously—a balancing act that often reveals itself in how quickly a startup can convert pilot projects into paying contracts.

Benji isn't operating in a vacuum. Odynn, another loyalty API startup, raised $9.5 million in seed funding on February 19, 2026, positioning itself specifically around financial institutions. Currency Alliance runs a similar partnership platform. Adjacent players like Kard and Fidel API tackle related problems in the card-linking and offers space, though their focus skews more toward payment data than loyalty program orchestration.

What the market needed was one seamless layer connecting fragmented ecosystems. What it's getting, perhaps inevitably, is several competing attempts to become that layer.

The Stakes (and the Skepticism)

Market sizing in loyalty management varies depending on who's counting and what they're counting. Fortune Business Insights estimated the sector at $15.19 billion in 2025, projecting growth to $17.38 billion in 2026 and $51.65 billion by 2034. Grand View Research offered a more conservative take—$13.59 billion in 2025, expanding to $31.11 billion by 2033.

Either way, the trend lines point in one direction. A February 2026 piece in Forbes Tech Council argued that "pay-with-points" functionality would move from differentiator to baseline this year, driven by consumer expectations and competitive pressure.

Still, Benji faces a version of the classic infrastructure challenge: proving that a horizontal API layer delivers more value than the direct integrations most companies already know how to build—or at least muddle through. Loyalty programs come loaded with complexity that doesn't easily standardize. Rules vary wildly. Compliance requirements differ by vertical. Partnership economics are often negotiated case by case.

The promise of any infrastructure play is that it handles the messy, repetitive parts so customers can focus on higher-order problems. The risk is that the messy parts resist commodification, and what looked like universal plumbing turns out to be a collection of bespoke fixes dressed up as a platform.

With $6.25 million in the bank and a hiring spree underway, Benji has some runway to prove which version of that story turns out to be true.
