Comand AI Raises €32M Series A for Defense Command Software

Paris-based defense AI startup lands Blossom Capital-led round and strategic investment from Saab, with Prevail platform already deployed in Ukraine and across NATO forces.

Comand AI Raises €32M Series A for Defense Command Software

The timing was deliberate. On the opening day of Eurosatory—the sprawling biennial defense exhibition that turns Paris into a showroom for tanks, drones, and the latest in military technology—Comand AI stood in front of industry heavyweights and announced it had raised €32 million.

That June 17 reveal, delivered amid the hum of defense contractors and NATO procurement officers, carried a pointed message: Europe, the Paris-based startup seemed to say, now has its own answer to the AI-powered battle-management platforms that American firms have been evangelizing to allied militaries for years.

Blossom Capital led the Series A. But the round's most conspicuous participant was Saab, the Swedish defense giant, which committed €11.1 million for a 10 percent stake. Pending regulatory approval, the investment ties Comand AI to one of Europe's most established defense primes—a marriage of startup agility and industrial heft. Expeditions Fund, an early backer, also returned for the round.

Neither Comand AI nor its investors disclosed the valuation for the two-year-old company.

What Prevail Actually Does

Comand AI's product is called Prevail, and if the pitch deck is to be believed, it functions as something like a "digital command staff"—a constellation of specialized AI agents that generate tactical maneuvers in real time, compress mission-planning cycles, and distill battlefield lessons into actionable doctrine. The platform is designed to operate offline and in degraded network environments, a nod to the realities of electronic warfare.

The company says Prevail has been deployed with operational units in France, Germany, Ukraine, and other allied nations over the past year. (How widely, and under what circumstances, remains less clear.) The software uses reinforcement-learning algorithms to build tactical situational awareness, pulling from orders, doctrine, terrain data, and open-source intelligence. It then proposes courses of action—which human commanders review, adjust, or reject outright.

It's worth noting: this is not autonomous decision-making. The human stays in the loop.

Founders With Pedigree, a Team Pulled From Familiar Names

CEO Loïc Mougeolle previously worked at Naval Group's innovation incubator. His co-founder, Antoine Chassang, is a machine learning engineer who spent a decade in the field, including a stint at Snapchat—an unusual but not unprecedented path into defense tech. The company's LinkedIn profile, which lists between 11 and 50 employees, namedrops alumni from Palantir, Anduril, and OpenAI. Whether that's marketing or genuine talent density is harder to say from the outside.

Comand AI was founded in 2023. It raised a €3 million pre-seed round in July 2023, led by Frst with Kima Ventures and Tiny VC participating. A larger €8.5 million seed followed in December 2024, led by Eurazeo. The new Series A brings total disclosed funding to roughly €43.5 million—a healthy war chest for a company still in its early commercialization phase.

Two Big Partnerships Announced in Quick Succession

The Saab investment isn't purely financial. It includes a technical collaboration to integrate Prevail into GlobalEye, Saab's airborne early warning and control aircraft, as well as the company's broader command-and-control and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C2/C5ISR) portfolio.

One day after the funding announcement, Comand AI unveiled a second strategic partnership—this time with Airbus Defence and Space—to embed Prevail into Airbus's command-and-control ecosystem for NATO and allied customers. The speed of those announcements, back-to-back, suggests orchestration. Companies don't drop two marquee partnerships in 24 hours by accident.

Maxim Frenkel, a partner at Blossom Capital, said in the company's release that the round would "accelerate the deployment of Prevail across allied armed forces." Saab described its stake as a means to "strengthen our C2/C5ISR capabilities" and position itself in next-generation multi-domain command systems. Both statements were cautious, measured—corporate speak that hints at ambition without overpromising.

Where the Money Goes

Comand AI says it will use the capital to scale Prevail across NATO markets and expand into new operational domains. Air capabilities are already in development. Maritime functionality, the company says, is slated to arrive before the end of the year. The funding will also support continued work with units in Ukraine—where real-world testing has become a proving ground for defense tech startups—and what the company calls the "industrialisation" of the platform for larger-scale deployments.

There's a pragmatism to that roadmap. Defense procurement cycles are long, consensus-driven, and unforgiving. Scaling too fast, without the operational credibility to back it up, can backfire.

A Crowded, High-Stakes Market

Comand AI is entering a field that's grown uncomfortably crowded. Palantir's Maven Smart System was adopted by NATO in April 2025 and continues expanding under U.S. Department of Defense contracts. Anduril's Lattice platform has seen deployment in multi-domain exercises and counter-drone operations. Shield AI, which raised $1.5 billion at a $12.7 billion valuation in March 2026, offers a Commander UI integrated with its Hivemind autonomy stack. And Munich-based Helsing—perhaps the most direct European competitor—raised a €600 million Series D last year.

That's a lot of platforms vying for the same finite pool of NATO and allied procurement budgets. The question isn't whether militaries will adopt AI-enabled command systems. They will. The question is whose.

The European Angle

The choice of venue—Eurosatory, Europe's largest land and airland defense exhibition—was more than logistical convenience. It was symbolic. Comand AI is positioning itself as the European alternative in a market that, until recently, was dominated by American firms with deeper pockets and closer ties to the Pentagon.

Whether that narrative resonates depends on execution. European defense budgets are rising, spurred by the war in Ukraine and a broader reckoning over collective security. But procurement remains fragmented, national interests often trump continental ones, and proving operational value takes time.

For now, Comand AI has capital, partnerships, and a product that—at least on paper—addresses a real need. What it doesn't yet have is the track record of scale. That, perhaps more than the founders expected, will determine whether Prevail becomes a standard across allied militaries or remains a promising footnote in a very competitive race.
