New AI Tool Pits 6 Critics Against Startup Ideas in 15-Minute Tests

Surmado's Strategy tool orchestrates adversarial debates across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and others, adding Monte Carlo simulations to counter 'too agreeable' validators.

New AI Tool Pits 6 Critics Against Startup Ideas in 15-Minute Tests

There's a problem with asking artificial intelligence to evaluate your business idea: It's almost pathologically agreeable.

That's the bet Surmado is making with its latest product, anyway. The San Diego startup has built what amounts to a digital boardroom brawl—six AI models from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other platforms, assigned specific roles and instructed to tear apart startup ideas in structured 15-minute sessions. Think of it as orchestrated conflict, with Monte Carlo simulations thrown in for good measure.

"ChatGPT, Claude Opus/Sonnet, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity debate your decision" before rendering judgment, the company explains on its product page. While the models argue, Python runs a thousand Monte Carlo simulations in parallel, modeling financial scenarios in the background. The premise is simple, if slightly unsettling: You can't trust one AI to tell you the truth, so make several fight about it.

The Strategy tool, which went live in late March 2026, assigns each model a corporate archetype. A CFO AI scrutinizes cash flow and ROI. A COO AI questions whether you can actually execute. Market Realist AI plays the skeptic on demand. Game Theorist AI maps out how competitors might respond. Chief Strategist AI evaluates long-term strategic fit. And then there's Wildcard AI, tasked with surfacing risks nobody saw coming.

It unfolds in three acts: independent critiques, structured cross-examination (where models challenge each other's assumptions), and finally a synthesis into what the company calls a prioritized action plan. The outputs include lists of critical flaws and "exit triggers"—red flags that should prompt founders to abandon ship.

Surmado's help documentation calls this an "AI Board of Directors" approach, framing the adversarial format as deliberate friction against confirmation bias. Whether founders want their business ideas subjected to what amounts to a digital cage match is another question entirely.

A Market Hungry for Harsher Truths

The timing is curious, if not exactly accidental. Surmado launched Strategy amid a growing chorus of founder complaints about vanilla AI validators—the kind that nod along and tell you your idea is brilliant with minimal pushback.

Reddit threads from early this year captured the frustration. Founders griped that tools like ValidatorAI, IdeaProof, and FounderPal "all do the same thing," yearning instead for red-team-style brutality. One post on Indie Hackers from late last year advocated explicitly for "devil's advocate" workflows, lamenting the difficulty of "getting the truth about my startup."

The competitive landscape has grown crowded. FoundersBoard markets itself around "5 AI executives" delivering instant feedback. The Board, built during an ElevenLabs hackathon, incorporates live web search. Roundtable.now launched on Product Hunt six months back, also promising multi-model debate. What sets Surmado apart, according to the company, is the statistical modeling engine running beneath the arguments—none of its competitors advertise Monte Carlo simulations prominently on their landing pages.

In a blog post from late February, Surmado claimed it's "one of the only platforms that hosts structured arguments across models." The company routes seven AI platforms through its own APIs, including DeepSeek, which it accesses via US-based Together AI.

Pricing Reflects Ambition

Strategy isn't cheap by AI validator standards. Each session costs $50 on a pay-as-you-go basis. Subscribers can opt for a Pro tier at $100 monthly (covering four jobs) or a Portfolio plan at $500 monthly (twenty jobs). The company offers a seven-day money-back guarantee and API access across all pricing levels, with webhook delivery of PDFs, slide decks, and JSON files.

The tool debuted on web and API, then expanded to iOS and Android apps days later. Surmado landed on PeerPush in late March, earning "#1 Product of the Day"—a respectable showing for a niche B2B tool. Early App Store reviews show a perfect 5.0 rating, though based on just three users at last check.

Trustpilot reviews from February 2026 reference Strategy being used for expansion decisions, while another mentions the platform's Site Audit product catching overlooked issues. The company reports delivering over 1,600 reports across its product suite, though it doesn't specify a timeframe, which leaves the figure hovering somewhere between impressive and vague.

Delaware Entity, Opaque Backing

Surmado operates as a Delaware C corporation with offices scattered across San Diego, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. LinkedIn pegs headcount at 2-10 employees. The About page lists a small team by first names only: Luke (Founder & Engineering), Patrick (Engineering), Shayne (Sales & Partnerships), plus two independents—Riley in marketing and Grizz in design.

CB Insights shows a company profile but no disclosed funding rounds as of April 2026. The startup was founded in 2025. Its tech stack is straightforward: Clerk handles identity management, Stripe processes payments, and everything runs on Google Cloud infrastructure with US-based servers, per the company's security documentation.

Surmado pitches Strategy for pricing decisions, market expansion calls, and hiring or operations dilemmas—essentially anywhere founders need structured pushback before committing serious resources. The company is banking on an idea that cuts against the grain of most consumer AI: that what founders need isn't another voice telling them they're brilliant. They need an argument.

Whether the market agrees—whether founders will pay $50 per session to watch AI models duke it out over their business plans—remains unproven. But in an ecosystem increasingly saturated with tools designed to affirm rather than interrogate, Surmado is making a pointed contrarian bet. Fifteen minutes of digital debate, the thinking goes, beats a single agreeable voice every time.

Perhaps. Or perhaps founders will discover that even combative AI can still miss what only lived experience catches. Either way, the experiment is underway.
