Thesis Care Raises $45M Series A for AI-Powered Clinical Teams

The clinical AI market has become crowded with ambient scribes and documentation assistants—tools that help doctors, but don't replace workflow steps. Thesis Care, a two-year-old startup emerging from relative obscurity, thinks it has a different answer: autonomous agents that complete care management tasks from start to finish, with clinical experts watching over their shoulders.

On March 25, the company announced a $45 million Series A led by Oak HC/FT, pushing its total capital raised to $60 million. CRV, Black Opal Ventures, and several healthcare technology executives joined the round. The funding came packaged with a rebrand—Thesis Care had operated until recently as Trovo Health, a name most people outside health tech probably never heard.

The timing of that name change tells its own story.

Autopilot, Not Copilot

Thesis Care's pitch hinges on a semantic distinction that matters more than it might seem at first. The company describes its platform as "autopilot, not a copilot," a line designed to separate it from the swarm of AI documentation tools flooding provider offices. Instead of suggesting phrases or surfacing patient data, Thesis Care's agents are supposed to handle entire care coordination workflows: scheduling follow-ups, closing gaps in care, managing referrals, tracking lab orders.

The architecture pairs those autonomous agents with human oversight—nurses and care managers who review the work. It's what the company calls an "expert-in-the-loop" model, and it integrates with existing EHR systems while maintaining audit trails and HIPAA compliance. The company holds SOC 2 Type II certification, the kind of security credential that enterprise buyers expect but rarely talk about at cocktail parties.

Named customers include U.S. Heart & Vascular, Essen Health Care, Springfield Clinic, Unio Health Partners, and Allied Digestive Health. According to the announcement, the platform now covers thousands of providers—though the company didn't specify how many thousands, or how "coverage" is measured.

The Rebrand Nobody Saw Coming

Trovo Health launched in April 2024 with a $15 million seed round, also led by Oak HC/FT. Less than two years later, the name is gone. Rebranding a company this early usually signals one of two things: the original positioning didn't resonate, or the founders figured out what they were actually building and needed language to match.

A trademark filing for "Thesis Care" appeared on February 27, 2026—filed by Trovo Health, Inc.—describing the service as "AI as a service" for patient care management and clinical operations. The company claimed first use in commerce for February 23, just a month before going public with the new identity and the Series A. That's not much runway between internal adoption and external announcement, suggesting perhaps the rebrand was timed deliberately to the fundraise.

Why "Thesis"? The company hasn't said, though the name evokes argumentation, proof, hypothesis—the kind of intellectual framing that appeals to investors who want to believe there's rigor behind the automation.

Riding the Clinical AI Wave (Or Is It a Bubble?)

Oak HC/FT's decision to double down on Thesis Care fits a pattern. The firm co-led Ambience Healthcare's $243 million Series C in July 2025, focused on ambient clinical documentation. Other massive rounds followed in quick succession: Abridge raised $250 million in February 2025, Freed pulled in $30 million the next month, and Navina closed a $55 million Series C around the same time.

Thesis Care is chasing a different slice of the problem. Ambient scribes help physicians document encounters faster; Thesis Care wants to replace care coordinators and operational staff—the people who chase down prior authorizations, call patients about overdue screenings, and manage the unglamorous logistics of keeping healthcare systems running. It's a segment squeezed by workforce shortages and burnout, which makes it theoretically attractive for automation. Whether it's actually automatable at scale remains an open question.

Customer testimonials included in the funding announcement followed the expected script. Allied Digestive Health's SVP of Operations praised the platform's impact on staff workload and care-gap closure. U.S. Heart & Vascular's SVP of Revenue Operations highlighted reduced administrative burden. These are early adopters, not proof of category dominance.

What Happens Next

The company plans to use the capital for commercial expansion, technology development, and building out its suite of "care team agents"—vague language that could mean almost anything. The announcement offered no revenue metrics, no deployment targets, no customer acquisition details. That's typical for a Series A, but it also means the hard questions about unit economics and scalability remain unanswered.

Co-founders Dr. Niren Gandra and Aditya Pandyaram both worked previously at Cedar, the patient billing and engagement company. Gandra is an internal medicine physician who trained at UChicago Medicine—credentials that lend clinical credibility to a fundamentally operational play. The company's website listed over 18 team members spanning clinical, engineering, product, and commercial roles as of late March. LinkedIn, as of this writing, still showed an outdated employee count of 2-10, a small reminder that public data lags behind private reality.

The Series A lands at a moment when healthcare organizations face contradictory pressures: cut costs, expand access, improve quality, retain staff. AI agents with clinical oversight sound like a plausible solution, at least on paper. Whether they deliver measurable ROI in practice—well, that's the experiment investors are now funding to the tune of $45 million. The market will render its verdict in due time. It always does.
