Eclipse Energy (formerly Gold H2) is a Houston-based energy technology company that converts end-of-life oil fields into low-cost, sustainable hydrogen sources. Using proprietary biotechnology rooted in deep genomic microbiology and reservoir engineering, Eclipse injects microbes into depleted subsurface reservoirs to biologically convert residual hydrocarbons into clean hydrogen, targeting a production cost of $0.50/kg. The company leverages existing oilfield infrastructure to minimize capital expenditure and has completed its first field trial demonstrating subsurface bio-stimulated hydrogen production. Eclipse has formed strategic partnerships with global engineering firm Wood and oilfield services leader Weatherford to commercialize and scale its technology internationally.
