Quintessent is a Santa Barbara-based deep tech semiconductor company specializing in heterogeneous integration of quantum dot lasers and silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Founded in 2019 as a spinout from UC Santa Barbara, the company develops resilient and low-cost optical connectivity products designed to make AI datacenter infrastructure simpler, more scalable, and more power-efficient. Its flagship product, a single-chip quantum dot-based DWDM comb laser, is now in customer sampling and targets the rapidly growing AI optical interconnect market. Quintessent is a founding member of the CW-WDM MSA for standardizing multi-wavelength optics in AI applications, and counts Goldman Sachs XIG-Industry Ventures, Cycle Capital, Ciena, Foothill Ventures, and Sierra Ventures among its investors.
