DI Gero Schwarz is Co-Founder of sequestra, a Vienna-based ClimateTech startup pioneering data-driven CO2 mineralisation technology to permanently bind carbon dioxide in industrial residues.
Gero studied metallurgy and recycling engineering at Montanuniversitat Leoben, where he and his co-founders recognised the potential of permanent CO2 binding in industrial waste streams and initiated the project in September 2023.
Gero brings deep expertise in industrial plant engineering and process development, helping build sequestra's globally patented, machine learning-powered carbonation platform from the ground up.
Since co-founding sequestra in 2024, Gero has helped the company raise over EUR 5 million in total funding, gain acceptance into elite accelerator programmes including INiTS, EIT Climate KIC, and EIT Manufacturing Venture Builders, and win the Greenstart award from the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund.
sequestra has completed over 250 carbonation trials across diverse industrial materials, operates a 15-person interdisciplinary team across Vienna and Upper Austria, and is targeting deployment of its first modular containerised mineralisation unit by end of 2027.
