
Dr. Katie King is the Co-Founder and CEO of BioOrbit, a pioneering space-pharma startup building a pharmaceutical factory in microgravity to revolutionise cancer treatment.
Katie completed her PhD in Nanomedicine at the University of Cambridge in 2022, interned at NASA on the Mars Sample Analysis Team, and conducted research with AstraZeneca before co-founding BioOrbit in 2023.
A former RAF volunteer reservist with eight years of military experience, Katie is a Tech She Can Ambassador and was named Codex World Top Female Innovator 2024 and winner of the Innovator Award at the Everywoman in Tech Awards 2024.
Prior to BioOrbit, Katie served as Microgravity Research Lead and Business Development Officer at Frontier Space Technologies, and gained formative experience at the International Space University in 2022 where the idea for BioOrbit was born.
BioOrbit raised the world's largest seed round for in-space manufacturing at £9.8M ($13.2M), co-led by LocalGlobe and Breega, and launched a record-breaking protein crystallisation payload to the ISS aboard SpaceX SpX-34, marking a historic manufacturing milestone.
