Dr. Matthew Carr is Co-Founder and CEO of Luffy AI, pioneering the world's first neuroplastic AI platform for real-time adaptive control of industrial systems, motors, and robotics.
Dr. Carr holds a PhD in Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion Technology from the University of Sydney and a BSc in Physics from UNSW, and previously served as a Fusion Physicist at the UK Atomic Energy Authority, developing reactor simulation models and Bayesian inference algorithms.
Dr. Carr believes industrial AI must be small, fast, and adaptive at the edge rather than cloud-dependent, a conviction that drives Luffy's entire technology philosophy and product strategy.
He co-founded Luffy AI in 2019 as a UKAEA spinout alongside Dr. Alex Meakins, and has since secured backing from BGF, MIG Capital, Chrysalix, Momenta, Bow Capital, and UKI2S, culminating in an £8.1M Series A in 2026.
Luffy's Adaptive Neural Controllers have been benchmarked at 800x fewer synapses and 400x less compute than traditional deep learning, targeting the 50% of global electricity consumed by electric motors.
