Dr. Patrick Sagastegui Alva

Dr. Patrick Sagastegui Alva is Co-Founder of Neubond, an Imperial College London spinout developing wearable neuromuscular interfaces to help stroke patients restore lost movement through neuroplasticity-driven rehabilitation.
Patrick earned his PhD at Imperial College London's Department of Bioengineering, where he led the development of advanced hardware devices including high-density sensory interfaces, and co-founded Neubond after meeting co-founder Jumpei Kashiwakura on a prosthetic hand project.
A bioengineer with deep expertise in neural interfaces, sensory feedback, haptics, and prosthetics, Patrick identified a breakthrough application for neural signal detection technology in stroke rehabilitation, pivoting from a crowded prosthetics market to a high-impact clinical need.
Under Patrick's technical leadership as CTO and Co-Founder, Neubond secured £1.5 million in seed funding from Waseda University Ventures, SFC Capital, and New Wave Ventures, and won the Health and Wellbeing track of Imperial's 2024 Venture Catalyst Challenge.
Neubond's wearable device demonstrated a 30% improvement in range of motion for stroke patients after one month in pilot trials, and is currently conducting a clinical feasibility study at Charing Cross Hospital in London ahead of MHRA certification.
