Edward Chiang

Edward Chiang (Eddy) is Co-Founder and CEO of Moment Energy, a Canadian cleantech company pioneering the repurposing of retired electric vehicle batteries into grid-scale battery energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, and off-grid applications.
Eddy holds a BASc in Mechatronics Systems Engineering from Simon Fraser University and co-founded Moment Energy in 2019 alongside three fellow SFU engineers, starting the company in a home garage in Surrey, British Columbia.
A Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and Royal Canadian Air Force officer, Eddy was named Fasken's Climate Tech Founder of the Year 2025 and is an alumnus of NEXT Canada's prestigious NEXT 36 program.
Under his leadership, Moment Energy secured over $60M in combined equity and debt financing, including a Series A co-led by Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund and Voyager Ventures, and $32M in government grants, and became the first company in North America to achieve UL 1974 certification for repurposed batteries.
Moment Energy has broken ground on a 200,000-square-foot gigafactory near Austin, Texas, backed by a US $20.3M U.S. Department of Energy award, with plans to reach 250 employees and repurpose every retired EV battery by 2030.
