Moment Energy
Moment Energy is a Canadian cleantech company that repurposes retired electric vehicle batteries into battery energy storage systems (BESS) for commercial, industrial, and off-grid customers. Founded by four Mechatronics engineers from Simon Fraser University, the company partners with major automakers including Mercedes-Benz and Nissan North America to source second-life EV batteries, which retain up to 80% of their original capacity. Its systems support peak shaving, load shifting, renewable energy integration, and backup power, and are the only repurposed battery systems certified for deployment in the built environment without special dispensations. Moment Energy is building North America's first second-life battery gigafactory near Austin, Texas, targeting approximately 1 GWh per year of capacity.
