Oliver Gunasekara

Oliver Gunasekara is Co-Founder and CEO of Impossible Metals, a pioneering deep-sea mining company using AI-driven autonomous underwater vehicles to responsibly harvest critical battery metals from the ocean floor.
Oliver holds a Bachelor's degree with honors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Greenwich London and a Mini-MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, before spending 12 years at ARM Holdings as VP of Corporate Business Development and M&A.
A 3x founder and 30-plus year entrepreneur in DeepTech and ClimateTech, Oliver was motivated to launch Impossible Metals during the pandemic after recognizing that legacy dredging technology was no match for the scale of the clean energy metals challenge.
At ARM, Oliver grew mobile market share from 0% to 95% and championed the acquisition of Falanx (Mali GPU); he then founded NGCodec in 2012, raised over $15M, and delivered a successful 5x exit to Xilinx (now AMD) in 2019.
Impossible Metals has raised $10.6M in seed funding backed by Y Combinator and 26 investors, achieved the world's first deep-water autonomous dive for mineral harvesting with its Eureka II AUV, and Oliver testified before the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee advocating for an industry projected to create over 100,000 jobs and $300B in economic output.
