Impossible Metals
Founders
Impossible Metals is a Public Benefit Corporation and Y Combinator-backed deep-sea mining company developing AI-driven autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to selectively harvest polymetallic nodules rich in critical battery metals including nickel, cobalt, manganese, and copper from the ocean floor. Unlike destructive dredging methods, its Eureka AUV platform uses computer vision and robotic arms to pick up nodules individually while avoiding marine life and leaving 60% of nodules untouched to preserve biodiversity. The company is headquartered in San Jose, California, with a robotics lab in Canada, and has secured $500M+ in off-take Letters of Intent.
