Tania Roy

Tania Roy is Co-Founder of Synapse Semiconductor and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, pioneering retina-inspired image sensors that process AI directly on the chip.
Tania earned her B.E. from BITS Pilani, India, her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, and completed postdoctoral research at Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley before joining Duke in 2023.
Tania is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) and Duke's 2025-2026 Thomas Langford Lectureship Award, reflecting her outsized impact in semiconductor research.
She previously served as Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida for six years, where she led the Next-Generation Electronics Laboratory focused on energy-efficient and neuromorphic devices.
Synapse Semiconductor was selected for Y Combinator's 2026 summer batch, becoming the first company to integrate the full computer vision stack into a single substrate, replacing the camera-plus-GPU architecture with one unified chip.
