Vedant

Vedant is Co-Founder and CTO at Samara Aerospace, a pioneering aerospace company developing the Hummingbird satellite platform with revolutionary attitude control technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Vedant earned his Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from UIUC in 2018 and served as a Research Scientist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He also held positions at Vellore Institute of Technology and worked with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on spacecraft technology development.
Vedant is the inventor of the patented MSAC (Multifunctional Structures for Attitude Control) system, co-patented with James T. Allison at the University of Illinois. His breakthrough discovery enables satellites to use solar panels for both power generation and precision attitude control, eliminating the need for traditional reaction wheels.
Samara Aerospace closed a $10M seed round led by Balerion Space Ventures in December 2025, with participation from Illinois Ventures, MFV Partners, and Access Venture Partners. The company received a $275,000 NSF SBIR award and secured SpaceWERX contracts, completing the TechStars Los Angeles accelerator program.
Samara's MSAC technology makes spacecraft platforms 1,000x more stable than traditional systems and enables flat satellite designs that dramatically reduce launch costs. The company delivered its first flight payload, Cicada, for in-space validation in 2025 and plans to launch a 50-kilogram Hummingbird satellite in late 2026.
