Agent FM launches desktop app to manage AI coding agents

YC S26 startup consolidates Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode sessions into one interface with live audio updates, tackling developers' agent babysitting problem.

Agent FM launches desktop app to manage AI coding agents

The daily routine for many software developers has started to resemble air traffic control: multiple AI coding assistants running simultaneously, each in its own terminal window, each demanding periodic check-ins to see what went wrong or right. Agent FM, a San Francisco startup from Y Combinator's summer 2026 batch, thinks it has spotted an opening in that chaos.

The company's new desktop application attempts to wrangle Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode sessions into a single interface, complete with ambient audio narration that tells developers what their autonomous helpers are up to without forcing them to read endless scrolling logs. It's the kind of product that only makes sense in a world where running three or four AI agents at once has become routine enough to need orchestration.

"Agent babysitting," the company calls it on their website. The term captures something real: context-switching fatigue from monitoring separate processes that are supposed to be making life easier, not adding another layer of distraction. Whether enough developers face this problem acutely enough to pay for a solution remains an open question.

What the Thing Actually Does

Agent FM's desktop app—available for macOS and Windows—offers a group chat feed that pulls together updates from whichever agents you're running. Voice narration reads out concise summaries of progress, decisions, errors, and blockers. The idea is ambient awareness: you hear what's happening without stopping to parse full transcripts or flip between terminals.

Under the hood, the app includes an observability dashboard tracking tokens consumed, cache hit rates, error frequencies, tool calls, and which models are getting the most use. The company says the software observes session output passively in a separate process rather than wrapping or proxying the command-line interfaces themselves, a design choice that may appeal to developers wary of yet another layer between them and their tools.

Voice-to-text functionality works system-wide for typing out prompts, replies, or commit messages. The narration feature sends limited session context to either Gemini or OpenAI to generate those audio updates, according to the company's FAQ. How "limited" that context is, and what developers comfortable enough to run multiple AI agents think about sending even more data to third-party providers, will likely shape adoption.

The Founders and Their Bets

Aniket Deshpande and Mugdhaa P. built Agent FM. Deshpande's LinkedIn profile points to prior work at Meta Superintelligence Labs on agent orchestration, reinforcement learning, search infrastructure, and Llama training data. Mugdhaa P. previously led AI developer productivity efforts at Snowflake, focused on model harnesses, evaluations, and tooling. Both resumes suggest familiarity with the specific frustrations their product targets.

The startup appears to have between two and ten employees, based on LinkedIn. Agent FM started as an open-source Mac app about three months ago, around May 2026, and a Windows version rolled out in late July or early August 2026, according to company posts and discussion threads on Reddit. That timeline suggests fast iteration, though it also means the product is quite young.

The company declined to share funding details or specific pricing figures. Their website lists Starter and Pro tiers behind waitlist signups, plus custom Teams and Enterprise plans that include single sign-on, SAML, centralized billing, and volume pricing. Cursor support is "on the roadmap," per the FAQ, which matters since Cursor has become something of a standard for AI-assisted coding.

A Crowding Field

Timing might be tricky. Anthropic and OpenAI have both begun building parallel-session capabilities directly into their own tools. Claude Code Desktop, updated in 2026 according to official documentation, now includes integrated terminal access, file editing, side chats, computer use, and pull request monitoring. OpenAI launched the Codex app in March 2026 with native support for worktrees, skills, and automations designed for juggling multiple agents.

When the platform providers start absorbing features, third-party tools face a familiar squeeze. Agent FM isn't alone in the consolidation play, either. Verde offers a similar multi-agent interface supporting Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, and Cursor. Bunshin focuses specifically on Claude Code with compatibility for Anthropic-style providers. CodeFire positions itself as an open-source command center for teams. Jaade is a local macOS app handling Claude Code and Codex. OpenCode itself ships a cross-platform desktop client supporting more than 75 providers.

A June 2026 analysis from Ry Walker Research compared 42 Mac and terminal-based coding agent applications and noted growing consolidation pressure from first-party desktop redesigns. Agent FM didn't make the leader table in that report, which could mean the company is too new to have registered or that early traction remains limited.

The core wager here is that even as Anthropic and OpenAI build out native session management, enough developers will want a neutral layer that works across providers and agents. That's plausible—developer tooling often thrives in the gaps between platforms. But the window for establishing that position may be narrowing faster than the founders expected when they started building three months ago.
