Clouted Raises $7M to Automate Viral Video Distribution for Brands

LA-based startup's AI platform generates 200M+ monthly views for entertainment clients like Riot Games and Lionsgate, backed by Slow Ventures and Peak XV's Surge.

Clouted Raises $7M to Automate Viral Video Distribution for Brands

When Illenium needed to amplify a new track, the electronic music artist's team turned to a peculiar network: roughly 1,000 creators and fan accounts, orchestrated by algorithms, clipping and reposting content across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X. Two weeks later, the campaign had racked up 30 million views. Cost per thousand impressions? Thirty-two cents.

That campaign, run through a Los Angeles startup called Clouted, represents a bet that the chaotic work of going viral—the clipping, the seeding, the fan page management, the stunt coordination—can be systematized. And as of May 20, that bet just got $7 million in validation.

Slow Ventures led the seed round, joined by Gold House Ventures, Weekend Fund, Peak XV's Surge, Z Venture Capital, Iterative, AppWorks, and Gondor Capital. Clouted also emerged from a16z's Speedrun accelerator, though the firm didn't participate in this round. The company declined to disclose its post-money valuation.

The funding arrives alongside the launch of what Clouted is branding "Distribution Intelligence"—a platform of AI agents designed to plan, execute, and learn from multi-channel distribution campaigns. It's infrastructure play in a space where most brands still rely on manual outreach, one-off influencer deals, and a prayer that something catches fire.

The Mechanics of Modern Virality

Founded in 2023, Clouted operates what might be described as a middleware layer for viral distribution. The platform doesn't create content—it disseminates it. Artists, labels, entertainment brands, even movie studios hand over their long-form videos, and Clouted's system handles the rest: clipping the most shareable moments, deploying them through a global network of over 100,000 creators and clippers, managing fan pages, coordinating paid promotions, and sometimes orchestrating viral stunts.

The company's client list reads like a playlist of electronic music heavyweights—Illenium, Zedd, Gorgon City—alongside entertainment giants Lionsgate and Riot Games. Labels including Monstercat, Liquid State (the Sony Music and Tencent Music Entertainment joint venture), and BMG also appear among its customers.

According to Z Venture Capital, one of the seed investors, Clouted has generated over 1 billion views since October 2024 across more than 250 campaigns. The company currently claims it drives 200 million-plus views monthly. Those are audacious numbers for a startup barely two years old, though they're notoriously difficult to verify independently in the opaque world of social media metrics.

The team itself carries pedigree from the gaming and entertainment worlds—alumni from Riot Games, TikTok, Twitch, Discord, and the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, according to the company.

What $0.32 Per Thousand Views Buys You

Consider the Illenium campaign for Liquid State. Beyond the 30 million views, the effort delivered three times the target overdelivery—industry speak for exceeding projections by 200%. The $0.32 effective CPM, as reported by Z Venture Capital, stands in stark contrast to traditional influencer marketing, where rates can balloon into double digits and negotiations consume weeks.

Or take an undisclosed action film premiere that Clouted handled: 13.8 million impressions, 1.15 million engagements, surpassing viewership goals by 539%. That last figure feels almost too clean, the kind of metric that raises eyebrows in a world where campaigns regularly underdeliver.

Clouted's model diverges from the negotiation-heavy influencer economy. Instead of brokering deals with individual creators, the platform operates on what ZVC describes as a "flat CPM model via authentic creator networks"—essentially, a programmatic approach to virality. Whether that authenticity holds up at scale remains an open question. After all, when you're coordinating thousands of accounts to clip and repost the same content, the line between organic and orchestrated starts to blur.

The Distribution Intelligence Wager

Digital illustration for article section "The Distribution Intelligence Wager" in "Clouted Raises $7M to Automate Viral Video Distribution for Brands" - A conceptual and minimalist visualization of "Distribution Intelligence" and the compounding nature ...

The seed capital positions Clouted in what it's calling the "Distribution Intelligence" category—a term that didn't exist a year ago. The premise: AI agents don't just execute campaigns, they learn from them, accumulating insights that compound over time. Each campaign, in theory, makes the next one smarter.

It's an ambitious claim, and one that puts Clouted in indirect competition with larger marketing infrastructure players like CreatorIQ, or data activation platforms like Hightouch, which reported $100 million in ARR back in April. More directly, Clouted competes with emerging automated clipping tools like Overlap AI, though few players span the full distribution stack the way Clouted does.

TechCrunch drew the comparison to those larger platforms, and it's not entirely off-base—except Clouted is playing in a narrower, higher-velocity space. Entertainment brands and artists don't necessarily need enterprise-grade CRM systems. They need things to go viral, and they need it yesterday.

The company operates with approximately 25 employees, according to its a16z Speedrun profile, though LinkedIn pegs the range more broadly at 11 to 50. (Minor discrepancies like this are common in startup reporting; headcount fluctuates, and public profiles lag reality.) Legal documents still reference the company's former name, Clout Kitchen, a branding that has since been retired—perhaps wisely, given the term's association with influencer drama.

The Bigger Picture

Digital illustration for article section "The Bigger Picture" in "Clouted Raises $7M to Automate Viral Video Distribution for Brands" - A conceptual and minimalist composition illustrating massive financial growth and structural support...

Slow Ventures' involvement carries particular weight here. The firm raised a $60 million creator-focused seed fund in February 2025, signaling sustained interest in infrastructure serving the creator economy. Goldman Sachs Research projected that market could approach $480 billion by 2027, according to a 2023 report—though projections from that era have proven... optimistic, given the turbulence in digital advertising over the past year.

Still, the fundamentals remain: attention is fragmented, distribution is complex, and brands are drowning in the operational overhead of maintaining presences across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, and whatever platform emerges next month. If Clouted can genuinely automate that chaos—and if its AI agents actually learn and improve—it's solving a real problem.

Whether $7 million is enough to prove that out at scale is another question entirely. The company now faces the classic seed-stage challenge: demonstrating that early wins with electronic music artists and entertainment brands can translate into a repeatable, scalable business model. In the volatile world of social media algorithms and platform policy shifts, that's never a sure bet.

For now, though, the virality engine is funded. And somewhere, another artist is handing over their latest video, hoping 1,000 clips can turn into 30 million views.
