Adèle James is Co-Founder and CTO at Phagos, a biotechnology company developing AI-powered bacteriophage therapies as a sustainable alternative to antibiotics. She has been leading the company's technology platform since its founding in 2021.
Adèle earned her PhD in molecular microbiology from Sorbonne Université, where she studied the ecology, evolution, and virulence of environmental Vibrios. She worked as a Research Scientist at BIOMILLENIA and was a Founder in Residence at Entrepreneur First before co-founding Phagos.
Adèle combines expertise in microbiology with cutting-edge AI to develop personalized phage therapies. She has published research on bacterial pathogenicity and holds patents for Phagos's AI technology that predicts phage-bacteria interactions.
Under her leadership, Phagos raised 25 million euros in Series A funding and became the first company authorized to market personalized phage-based veterinary drugs in the EU. The company uses Amazon SageMaker AI to create generative models that rapidly match phages to target bacteria.
Phagos's platform can design customized bacterial treatments in just 2 months, serving chicken, cattle, swine, and shrimp farms worldwide. The company is expanding globally across Europe, Asia, and the Americas to combat antimicrobial resistance, which claims 1 million lives annually.
