Aditya Grover is Co-Founder and CTO at Inception Labs, a generative AI startup pioneering ultra-fast diffusion-based large language models that run 10x faster at 1/10th the cost of traditional LLMs. He is also an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UCLA, where he leads the Machine Intelligence (MINT) group developing AI systems for scientific discovery.
Aditya earned his PhD from Stanford University in 2020, where he received the prestigious Walter J. Gores Award for teaching excellence and the ACM SIGKDD Doctoral Dissertation Award. He completed postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley and his bachelor's degree from IIT Delhi in 2015.
Aditya has published research cited over 27,000 times and received the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award, Forbes 30 Under 30, Schmidt AI2050 Early Career Fellowship, and Kavli Fellowship by the US National Academy of Sciences. During his PhD, he interned at Google DeepMind, Microsoft Research, and OpenAI, and spent time as a research scientist at Meta's FAIR group.
Inception Labs raised $50M in seed funding led by Menlo Ventures with participation from Microsoft M12, Nvidia NVentures, Snowflake Ventures, Databricks Investment, and angel investors Andrew Ng and Andrej Karpathy. The company launched Mercury, the first commercial-scale diffusion LLM achieving over 1,000 tokens per second.
Mercury has been integrated into developer tools including ProxyAI, Buildglare, Kilo Code, and Zed editor, and is available via Amazon Bedrock, OpenRouter, and Poe. Aditya's research on generative models has been deployed at Google and OpenAI, and featured in Nature, Wall Street Journal, and MIT Tech Review.
