Alex Kendall is Co-Founder and CEO at Wayve, pioneering embodied AI for autonomous driving with end-to-end deep learning technology. Wayve raised $1.5B in Series D funding at an $8.6B valuation in February 2026, with partnerships spanning Uber, Microsoft, Nvidia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis.
Alex completed his PhD in deep learning, computer vision, and robotics at the University of Cambridge as a Woolf Fisher Scholar, where he was elected Fellow of Trinity College in 2017. Prior to Wayve, he worked as a Research Engineer at Skydio on drone algorithms and graduated first in his engineering class from the University of Auckland.
Alex's PhD research was awarded the 2018 BMVA Prize and 2019 ELLIS Prize, and he has been recognized with the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal and appointed OBE for services to AI. He was featured on Forbes 2020 30 Under 30 and MIT Technology Review's Innovators Under 35 for his pioneering work in embodied AI.
Wayve co-founded in 2017 became the first company to deploy autonomous vehicles on public roads using end-to-end deep learning, demonstrating zero-shot driving in over 500 cities across Europe, North America, and Japan. The company plans commercial robotaxi trials with Uber in London in 2026 and will deploy supervised autonomy software in Nissan vehicles from 2027.
Under Alex's leadership, Wayve has raised over $1.5B total funding and grown to 250+ employees across London, Silicon Valley, and Vancouver, establishing itself as one of Europe's most valuable AI companies. Wayve pioneered the AV2.0 approach that enables autonomous systems to generalize globally without high-definition maps or location-specific engineering.
