Andreas Bappert is Director of Engineering and CTO at Frankenburg Technologies, an Estonian defense tech startup developing affordable, mass-manufacturable missile systems to counter modern aerial threats.
Andreas brings over 30 years of rocket development experience, starting his career with the German Luftwaffe before spanning multiple rocket programs across Europe and the United States. He studied at Universitat der Bundeswehr Munchen and led the Medium and Long Range Air Defence Systems division at Diehl Defence from 2022 to 2025, where he oversaw the IRIS-T SLM and SLX programs.
At Diehl Defence, Andreas helped secure several billion euros in contracts over just two years and led development of the IRIS-T SLM, Europe's most advanced ground-based air defense system, which is combat-proven in Ukraine. He joined Frankenburg in January 2025, attracted by the company's vision to develop missile systems 10 times more affordable and 100 times faster to produce than current alternatives.
Andreas has held senior roles including Technical Program Director for IRIS-T SLM at Diehl Defence, Performance Verification Section Leader at NATO MEADS Management Agency, and Program Manager for Air Defence Systems at IABG. His expertise spans system architecture, radar and missile systems development, and NATO air defense frameworks.
Under Andreas's engineering leadership, Frankenburg is building Europe's next-generation missile defense capability, with plans to establish mass production sites capable of producing over 100 missiles per day. The company has secured partnerships with Babcock International, BAE Systems, and Poland's defense industry to integrate its Mark 1 interceptor system across maritime and ground-based platforms.
