Andrej earned his PhD from Stanford University under Fei-Fei Li, focusing on deep learning at the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing. He designed and taught Stanford's first deep learning course CS231n, which grew from 150 to 750 students.
Andrej was named one of MIT Technology Review's Innovators Under 35 for 2020 and one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in AI in 2024. He coined the term vibe coding in 2025 to describe AI-assisted programming.
At Tesla from 2017 to 2022, Andrej's team handled neural network training and deployment on custom inference chips, advancing Autopilot from lane keeping to city streets. He returned to OpenAI in 2023 to work on GPT-4 improvements before founding Eureka Labs in July 2024.
Andrej's CS231n course became one of Stanford's largest classes and his YouTube lectures on AI have reached millions worldwide. His work at Tesla contributed to processing over 3 billion miles of real-world autonomous driving data.
