Andrew Mello is Co-Founder and CTO at Dispatch, a Y Combinator-backed aerospace startup building refurbishable reentry vehicles and autonomous space stations to enable manufacturing in microgravity.
Andrew earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Algorithms from Northeastern University, before cutting his teeth at Apple on AirPods, Amazon on warehouse automation, and Zoox on autonomous vehicle software.
Andrew led the Avionics team at Astranis through multiple generations of geostationary satellite designs, gaining deep expertise in building hardware that survives the extreme environments of space.
At Dispatch, Andrew co-founded the company alongside Payton Case, leveraging four years of shared experience at Astranis to tackle one of the most capital-intensive frontiers in aerospace: in-space manufacturing logistics.
The Dispatch team has already successfully tested a full-scale reentry heat shield built for 100x less than competitors, designed to protect payloads returning from space at Mach 20+, targeting ultra-high-value materials like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and biotech products.
