Arash Ferdowsi is Co-Founder of Dropbox, the pioneering cloud storage and collaboration platform that revolutionized file sharing with over 700 million users worldwide. He served as the company's first Chief Technology Officer from 2007 to 2016, leading engineering, security, and product design.
Arash studied electrical engineering and computer science at MIT, where he met co-founder Drew Houston and dropped out in his last semester to launch Dropbox in 2007. He graduated as valedictorian from Blue Valley Northwest High School in Kansas, son of Iranian immigrant parents.
Dropbox raised over $600M in funding and went public in March 2018 at a $9.2 billion valuation, making Arash a billionaire. He is now an active angel investor with a portfolio of 49+ startups, focusing on B2B technology and AI-powered solutions.
Under Arash's technical leadership, Dropbox grew from a Y Combinator startup to a public company with 2,300+ employees and $1.7 billion in revenue. He led recruiting, design, and backend infrastructure, rejecting a nine-figure acquisition offer from Apple in 2009.
Dropbox became one of Y Combinator's most successful investments, serving hundreds of millions of users globally. Since leaving Dropbox in 2020, Arash has invested in companies like Clockwork, Golden, Fleetsmith, and established a $500K educational fund for Kansas schools.
