Ethan Barajas is Co-Founder and CEO of Icarus Robotics, a New York-based space robotics company building the robotic labor force for space through embodied AI-powered systems. He co-founded Icarus alongside Jamie Palmer to liberate astronauts from costly, time-consuming logistics work in orbit.
Ethan earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Biology from Caltech, where he also competed in Caltech Racing's Formula SAE Electric team. His space journey began at age 17 when he landed his first NASA internship, designing nanolabs for the ISS and later working on lunar rovers while at Caltech.
Ethan brings deep space domain expertise, having recognized that astronauts spend the majority of their time on repetitive cargo logistics rather than high-value research. His conviction: deploying robots in space is one of the only environments where the cost of a robot and operator is less than the resource being replaced.
Prior to Icarus, Ethan served as a Founder in Residence at Entrepreneur First, where he met co-founder Jamie Palmer. He also participated in Voyager's NASA HUNCH program during high school, a full-circle connection that later led to a mission contract with Voyager Technologies.
Icarus raised a $6.1M seed round led by Soma Capital and Xtal, and secured a mission management contract with Voyager Technologies to test its free-flying robot platform, Joyride, aboard the ISS in early 2027.
