Boris Sofman is Co-Founder and CEO of Bedrock Robotics, bringing autonomous systems to construction equipment through ML-driven technology. He is based in San Francisco and leads the company focused on transforming heavy machinery with autonomy.
Boris previously served as Director of Engineering and Head of Trucking at Waymo, where he spent 5 years pioneering autonomous vehicle deployment. He earned his PhD in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon and founded Anki, a consumer robotics company that shipped over 3.5 million devices with revenues approaching 100M dollars.
At Waymo, Boris and the Bedrock team helped put the first fully autonomous vehicles on public roads, systems that today operate across 4 cities with over 70M driverless miles at 5X the safety of humans. He led the pivotal shift from engineered systems to ML-driven approaches, using data from human drivers to capture nuances of interaction.
Bedrock raised 80M dollars in Seed and Series A funding led by Eclipse and 8VC, with participation from NVIDIA Ventures and former Waymo CEO John Krafcik. The company operates across Arizona, Texas, Arkansas and California, with autonomous systems having moved over 65,000 cubic yards of earth.
The Bedrock Operator transforms existing construction equipment into autonomous machines with superhuman precision, upgrading fleets with sensors, compute and intelligence that adapts to conditions and works around the clock. Bedrock targets initial operator-less deployment in 2026, addressing the construction labor shortage and enabling 24/7 operations.
