A Sri Lankan-born, Canadian-raised entrepreneur, Chamath earned a degree in Electrical Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Waterloo, then rose to become a senior executive at Facebook from 2007 to 2011, where he led the platform's global growth to one billion users.
After leaving Facebook, Chamath founded Social Capital in 2011, managing over $2.1 billion in assets and backing transformative companies including Slack, Box, and Groq, establishing himself as one of Silicon Valley's most influential venture capitalists.
Chamath founded 8090 in January 2024 as a self-funded incubator, evolved it into the Software Factory platform, and secured a $135M Series A led by Salesforce Ventures with participation from Craft Ventures, LAUNCH, The Production Board, and WndrCo, marking his return to full-time operating leadership.
