
Chris Lattner is Co-Founder and CEO of Modular, an AI infrastructure company building a unified compute platform that enables developers to run AI applications across diverse hardware without code rewrites.
Chris studied Computer Science at the University of Portland and later earned his PhD at the University of Illinois, where he created LLVM as a graduate student. He worked at Apple for 12 years, Google, Tesla, and SiFive before founding Modular in 2022.
Chris is the creator of LLVM compiler infrastructure and the Swift programming language, and received the ACM Software System Award in 2013 and the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Software Award in 2010. He co-founded MLIR at Google and built systems used by billions of users globally.
Modular raised $250M in Series C funding in September 2025, bringing total funding to $380M and valuing the company at $1.6B. Investors include GV (Google Ventures), General Catalyst, Greylock, and US Innovative Technology fund, with customers including Oracle, Amazon, Nvidia, and AMD.
Modular has grown to over 130 employees and built a community of over 120,000 developers. The company's Mojo programming language and MAX inference engine are transforming how developers build AI applications across CPUs, GPUs, and ASICs.
