Adrian M. Ionescu is CTO and Co-Founder at Xsensio, a Swiss deep-tech company pioneering continuous biochemical monitoring with its Lab-on-Skin wearable biosensing platform. He is also a full Professor at EPFL, where he founded and directs the Nanoelectronic Devices Laboratory and was appointed Dean of the School of Engineering in November 2025.
Adrian holds two PhDs in microelectronics from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest and in semiconductor physics from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble. He held positions at CEA-Leti, Stanford University, and Tokyo Institute of Technology before joining EPFL.
Adrian received the prestigious 2024 IEEE Cledo Brunetti Award for his leadership in energy-efficient steep slope devices and was elected to Academia Europaea in 2025. He is an IEEE Fellow and has published over 600 articles in scientific journals.
Adrian pioneered tunneling field-effect transistors and steep slope devices for ultra-low power electronics. He led the FET Flagship Pilot Guardian Angels program with 66 partners and received the IEEE George Smith Award in 2017.
Xsensio raised a $7M oversubscribed Series A in March 2026 led by WI Harper and announced a collaboration with Texas Instruments to scale semiconductor biosensing technology. The company was recognized by TIME as one of the World's Top HealthTech Companies of 2025.
