Akshat Bubna is Co-Founder and CTO at Modal, a serverless AI infrastructure platform that enables developers to run compute-intensive workloads with instant autoscaling. He leads product and engineering at Modal with 12 years of software engineering experience.

Before founding Modal, Akshat was a Staff Software Engineer at Scale AI, where he designed core engineering and operations systems and led the Natural Language and Quality teams. He studied Mathematics and Computer Science at MIT, graduating in 2017.

Akshat is a competitive programmer and recipient of IOI Gold and Bronze medals. An MIT-trained mathematician and computer scientist, he focuses on bridging research-grade models into reliable, developer-friendly production systems.

Modal raised $87M in Series B led by Lux Capital at a $1.1B valuation. Customers use Modal for Generative AI inference, LLM fine-tuning, computational biotech, and media processing.

Modal built its own custom infrastructure including file system, container runtime, scheduler, and container image builder. The platform lets developers scale from zero to thousands of CPUs or GPUs in a few lines of code.
