Alex Merwin is Co-Founder and COO at Outpost Bio, a London and Boston-based biotech startup making human microbiology computable through AI-driven models. The company raised $3.5M in pre-seed funding in March 2026 from Merantix Capital, Seedcamp, and others.

Alex served as Head of Growth for Health & Bio Startups at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he spent over a decade building and scaling high-performance teams. He holds a Bachelor's in Marketing with an International Business Certificate from the University of Colorado Boulder and completed executive development courses at INSEAD.

Alex has 15 years of experience in health, advertising, and big tech, including driving growth at two unicorn-exited startups. He is an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and previously mentored startups through accelerators like KQ Labs and the DTXcellence Program.

At Outpost Bio, Alex co-founded the company in 2025 with Dr. Jenny Yang, an Oxford PhD and former Marie Curie Fellow. The company's Lab-in-the-Loop platform integrates automated experimentation with machine learning to predict microbe-mediated metabolism, toxicity, and drug responses.

Outpost Bio is building the most comprehensive dataset in human microbiology to unlock new ways to design drugs, ingredients, and consumer health products. The platform enables pharmaceutical, food, and consumer companies to predict how microbial communities reshape interventions, moving beyond correlations to reveal causal pathways.
