Andy Rubin is the Co-Founder and CEO of Android, Inc., widely celebrated as the 'Father of Android' and one of the most consequential figures in the history of mobile technology, having created the open-source platform that now powers over 3.7 billion active devices worldwide.
Rubin earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Utica College and launched his career as a robotics engineer at Carl Zeiss AG, before joining Apple in 1989 where his passion for robotics earned him the nickname 'Android.'
A serial entrepreneur at the intersection of hardware and software, Rubin co-founded Danger Inc. in 1999, creator of the iconic T-Mobile Sidekick, before channeling that mobile innovation expertise into founding Android, Inc. in 2003 in Palo Alto, California.
After Google acquired Android, Inc. in 2005 for approximately $50 million, Rubin served as SVP of Mobile and Digital Content at Google until 2014, overseeing Android's growth into the world's dominant mobile OS; he later co-founded Playground Global and Essential Products, and now leads Genki Robotics, a Tokyo-based humanoid robotics startup valued at approximately $1 billion at Series A.
Android powers more than 70% of all smartphones globally, and Rubin was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame in 2019; his latest venture, Genki Robotics, raised a $50M seed led by Andreessen Horowitz and reached unicorn status within its first year.
