August DuMont Schütte is Co-Founder and CTO of Atira, a Munich-based AI startup building an orchestration platform that automates sales engineering workflows for industrial manufacturers. He co-founded Atira in November 2024 alongside CEO Florian Diegruber, with a shared vision of reindustrializing Europe and the US through frontier AI.
August studied at ETH Zurich and conducted research at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, focusing on deep generative modelling and federated learning for biomedical imaging. He then joined Google as a machine learning software engineer before transitioning to entrepreneurship.
August brings a rare combination of elite academic research and industry-grade ML engineering, having been cited 265 times in the machine learning literature. His deep technical expertise in AI systems is the backbone of Atira's cutting-edge multi-agent platform.
Prior to Atira, August worked as a machine learning software engineer at Google and as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in collaboration with ETH Zurich. He and Florian began working together in mid-2024 on a broad thesis about applying AI to industrial challenges.
Atira has raised $17.5M in total funding, including a $15M seed round led by Accel, and its AI agents reduce the time from customer request to submitted bid by as much as 80%. The company targets a $128 billion global industrial sales engineering labor market.
