Brandon Lucia is Co-Founder and CEO at Efficient Computer, a chip startup building the world's most energy-efficient general-purpose processors with 10 to 100 times better power efficiency than traditional von Neumann architectures. He is also a Full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
Brandon earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Washington in 2013 and conducted pioneering research on energy-efficient computing and intermittent systems at Carnegie Mellon. His academic work on batteryless computing and energy-harvesting devices laid the foundation for Efficient Computer.
Brandon received the NSF CAREER Award (2017), IEEE TCCA Young Computer Architect Award (2019), Sloan Research Fellowship (2021), and multiple best paper awards including ASPLOS 2018. His lab developed the world's first batteryless nanosatellite, Tartan-Artibeus-1, deployed to orbit in 2022.
Efficient Computer raised $76M total funding including a $60M Series A in February 2026 led by Triatomic Capital and a $16M seed round in 2024 led by Eclipse. The company launched the Electron E1 processor and is deploying with customers like BrightAI for infrastructure monitoring.
Efficient Computer's Fabric architecture enables devices to run AI and ML continuously on a single battery for 5 to 10 years, targeting applications in industrial automation, space and defense, and wearables. The company grew from founding in 2022 to 45+ employees across Pittsburgh and San Jose offices by 2025.
