
Dr. Brendan Banfield is Co-Founder and CEO of Gridsight, an AI-powered grid intelligence platform helping electrical utilities unlock latent network capacity and accelerate the integration of renewable energy at scale.
Brendan holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wollongong, where he also completed his Bachelor of Engineering as a Dean's Scholar, and previously worked as an Undergraduate Electrical Engineer at Evoenergy (then ActewAGL).
Driven by a passion for data-driven renewable energy integration, Brendan led the team that built Australia's first smart, net-positive energy dementia-friendly home, the Desert Rose, which placed 2nd overall at the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 in Dubai.
Before launching Gridsight in 2020, Brendan worked as a Software Developer at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre and completed his PhD on optimal control of distributed energy resources (DER) in buildings and distribution networks.
Gridsight now works with 50% of Australia's grid operators, monitors over 4.2 GW of renewable energy assets globally, and has raised a total of $43.5M including a $36M Series B led by Insight Partners, with operations across Australia, New Zealand, the US, and the UK.
