
Brian O'Toole is CEO of BlackSky, a real-time, space-based intelligence company that delivers on-demand satellite imagery and geospatial analytics to government agencies and commercial organizations worldwide.
Brian earned a Master's degree in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Clarkson University. He founded OpenWhere, which was acquired by BlackSky in 2016, and previously co-founded ITspatial, pioneering intelligent 3D mapping technology.
Brian was named Executive of the Year at the 2025 Greater Washington GovCon Awards and serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation. He previously served as Chief Technology Officer at GeoEye and held senior roles at GE Aerospace, Textron Systems, and Overwatch.
Brian became CEO in August 2018 after serving as CTO following BlackSky's acquisition of his company OpenWhere. Under his leadership, BlackSky went public on the NYSE in September 2021 through a SPAC merger that raised over $280 million.
BlackSky operates a constellation of satellites providing real-time intelligence to U.S. and international government agencies, with recent contracts exceeding $60 million. The company generates over $100 million in annual revenue and employs approximately 340 people.
